What is the Biggest Threat to America? John McCain Has the Answer

Republican Senator John McCain spoke with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday and laid out flat exactly what he thinks about Russia and it’s meddling in elections. To sum it up, he isn’t a fan of  Vladimir Putin. 

“I think ISIS can do terrible things. But it’s the Russians who tried to destroy the fundamental of democracy and that is to change the outcome of an American election.”

That’s right. Putin’s Russia has more potential to do serious damage to the United States and the world than ISIS does according to McCain.  And it’s fair to say that he isn’t wrong with that assessment.

As McCain points out, not only did Russia try to interfere in the US elections, but Putin also did what he could to influence the recent elections in France, has invaded Ukraine and sliced it in half and is trying to influence politics in the Baltics. This makes Russia the “premier” challenge facing the US and the world in John McCain’s eyes.

And, he isn’t impressed with how Donald Trump has handled the situation so far.

“We have done nothing since the election last November to respond to Vladimir Putin’s attempt to change the outcome of our elections. So, way to go Vladimir. We haven’t responded at all.”

In fact, pretty much all Trump has done is deny any interference and try to deflect attention away from the whole sordid affair. But, McCain isn’t interested in letting it be. He would like to see increased sanctions on Russia and hopes that when Senate is back in session that can be achieved.

What Happens When Vladimir Putin Inevitably Turns On Donald Trump?

According to Newsweek, McCain is uncomfortable with the growing scandal involving Trump’s connections to Russia, stating, “[t]his is becoming more and more bizarre. In fact, you can’t make it up.”  And, this is far from the first time he has expressed his concerns on this matter, as Vox reports. Just a few weeks ago he said that the Trump/Russia scandal is “reaching Watergate size and scale” and warned that “[t]his is not good for the country.”

No. No it isn’t. That can’t be argued. So, McCain is clearly concerned for the future of democracy, especially if the United States doesn’t take matters seriously. The question is, will Trump continue to stand in the way as democracy in the West is undermined? If so, America truly has two enemies: Putin AND Trump.

Trump Has Become The World’s Punchline

One of the most iconic images of Donald Trump’s overseas trip isn’t one of calm reflection at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, or his meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis.  It’s a frat-boy photo-op with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman. In it, the two men are grasping a glowing globe, staring vacantly into the camera. The hands-on-the-world photo is almost a metaphor for the smudgy political fingerprints Trump is leaving all across the planet.

Social media mockery of the photo likened it to some strange occultist ceremony–Heads of state paying homage to the world they’re about to ruin–that sort of thing.

But not even Anonymous or Guccifer 2.0 could have contrived a computer troll as brilliant as the leaders of Europe’s Nordic region.  In a photo parody, the leaders of Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden  and Iceland grasp a football a-la Trump’s Saudi Arabia pose.  Twitter relished in the prompt display of this photo as well.

The photo seems to scream “Down with The Donald”, reflecting what German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday about the current status of the European/American relationship.

“The times when we could completely count on others, they are over to a certain extent,” I have experienced this in the last few days. And that is why I can only say that we Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands.”

Germany has led the way in calling out President Trump for the laughing-stock that he is.  The German news magazine Der Spiegel said it best in a May 19th  editorial that eviscerated the president.

“Donald Trump is not fit to be president of the United States. He does not possess the requisite intellect and does not understand the significance of the office he holds nor the tasks associated with it”

Other leaders, as well, have called Donald Trump out for what he really is.  Irish senator Aodhan O’Riley’s  impassioned speech about Trump’s victory  sets the tone for what all of Europe is evidently feeling.

“I don’t use the word ‘fascist’ lightly but what else would you call somebody who threatens to imprison his political opponents.  What would you say about somebody who says the media is rigged-the judiciary is rigged?”

The photo parody is a humorous poke at our clown-like president.  It’s a harmless jab that would be worthy of a Saturday Night Live skit, but it’ll likely elicit a scathing tweltdown  from the president which will further validate what the rest of the world thinks of us.  But the more ominous takeaway from all of this is that the United States of America is losing credibility and political power.  Like some smarmy magician or balloon twister, we are in the room, but seated at the kids’ table.

It appears that President Donald Trump won’t be visiting the United Kingdom anytime soon. In her speech before Parliament on Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth didn’t mention his name even once. In fact, the only state visit she mentioned was that of Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and their visit is scheduled for July, The New York Daily News reports. 

And according to The Independent,  it may be two years before Trump visits the U.S. ally.

Prime Minister Theresa May invited him to visit after the two were spotted holding hands in the White House garden earlier this year, but fears of large-scale protests may have scuppered the trip.

Downing Street and the White House are brushing aside claims that the President’s visit is in doubt, but the earlier invitation has faced mounting criticism, largely due to his ridiculous behavior.

Reports indicate that Trump told May last week that he wouldn’t visit unless he is welcomed warmly. He also warned her that if there are protests he definitely won’t be dropping in for a visit. And according to witnesses, that phone call shocked her.

Typical of Trump’s grandiosity, he wanted a full-fledged carriage ride through London with the Queen. But security officials were worried that the carriage ride would be a massive headache in terms of safety. It’s entirely understandable that officials are concerned, since London has been targeted by several terror attacks in recent months. It’s also entirely understandable that Trump is a buffoon with an over-blown ego who doesn’t care whose lives he might endanger as long as he’s put first.

There really isn’t much information out there regarding the trip, and in one of his infamous Twitter meltdowns, the president attacked London mayor Sadiq Khan after a recent terror attack left eight people dead.

Khan was trying to calm people down after the tragedy, and this was when Trump fired off a mean-spirited tweet calling the mayor’s response a “pathetic excuse.” That was followed up with one of his now-infamous Twitter meltdowns that lasted for two days.

So it should come as no surprise that Khan is imploring May to cancel Trump’s visit.

But May has been sidling up to our fearless orange leader, ever since her January visit to the White House, largely due to the fact that Trump is a Brexit supporter who has indicated he’d be more than happy to broker an early trade deal once the UK leaves the European Union.

Now petitions are swirling and members of the House of Commons are debating his trip, with the majority coming out against his arrival amid potentially looming protests.

So Trump’s done it again — he’s managed to worsen a chaotic situation while shining the light on himself.

American Tourist Throws Nazi Salutes in Germany, promptly got punched

As the world watches on in horror and the horrible White Supremacist chaos continue to unfold live in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Associated Press reports Sunday morning that at least one ugly American is now taking the disgusting show abroad.

The AP reports that a drunken 41 year-old American male threw up the stiff-armed “Sieg Heil” Nazi salute several times Saturday morning in Dresden, Germany. The American was punched by a passer-by who quickly “fled the scene.”

Fueled by a long, contentious presidential campaign led by Republican President Donald Trump, hate crimes jumped 20% in 2016, and show no signs of slowing down in 2017. That hate turned deadly on Saturday in Charlottesville, when 32-year old counter-protester Heather Heyer was mowed over and killed by a car driven by James Alex Fields, who plowed into the crowd and then fled. Fields has been arrested and is being charged with one count of second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and one count of failure to prevent hit-and-run.

On Saturday, President Trump made a less-than-strong statement condemning the heinous Virginia violence, but refused to use the term “White Supremacy.” He also refused to label the incident as “domestic terrorism.” Trump is being widely condemned by both Democratic and Republican politicians for his lack of leadership as White Nationalism is exploding across the United States.

Democratic Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe has been one of the most outspoken critics, telling the White Supremacists to “go home, and never come back.” He also told the press on Saturday that he spoke with Trump and implored him to,

“Stop the hate speech, stop the rhetoric in this country, we have got to bring people together.”

The American who was beaten in Dresden is being investigated for violating Germany’s laws against displaying Nazi symbolism or slogans. The attacker is still being sought.

With tensions ratcheting up yet again with the rogue nation of North Korea, this time the result of a hydrogen bomb test estimated to be 5-10x the strength of previous nuclear tests,  the world watches and waits anxiously to see how our notoriously temperamental president will respond.

Trump recently raised eyebrows with his comments suggesting that any more nuclear tests or threats from North Korea would be met with “fire and fury”, and his habit of provoking the leader of the hermit Kingdom, Kim Jung Un, on Twitter is unsettling for those seeking to de-escalate an already tense situation.

In a Sunday interview with ABC news Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) criticized the president for his reckless words and actions, particularly his use of social media.

“I don’t think that it’s helpful to get into a Twitter shouting match with a 32-year-old dictator, Kim Jong Un, in North Korea. I think unfortunately that it’s escalated the tension in the situation,”

he said.

Castro added.

North Korean state television announced on Sunday that a test of a miniaturized hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on an intercontinental ballistic missile was a success. For decades, since the end of the Korean war, the Kim dynasty has made the United States its perennial foe, using the threat of American invasion as a means to govern its people and implement a brutal regime of authoritarianism.

Pyongyang in recent weeks has launched several missiles.

Cooler heads will prevail

Donald Trump’s propensity to make incendiary claims is problematic in all aspects of governing, but particularly in foreign policy. In order for the world to manage delicate and dangerous situations such as the one on the Korean peninsula, the United States must be clear-minded and level-headed in its leadership. At the very least, as Representative Castro reminds us, the president should avoid using Twitter to flame volatile young dictators with nuclear weapons.

In brief statement in which he took no questions Defense Secretary James Mattis announced Sunday that the North Korea threat may be met with a ‘massive military response’, prompting speculation that the United States could be planning a preemptive attack.

“We are not looking for the annihilation of North Korea – we have many options” Mattis went on to say.

Earlier in the day Sunday Trump condemned North Korea’s most recent nuclear test in a number of tweets, saying the country was acting “hostile and dangerous” and claiming that “talk of appeasement will not work.”

“North Korea has conducted a major Nuclear Test. Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States,” the president wrote, also noting that North Korea “has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success.”

Hours before the White House briefing with Secretary Mattis,  Trump alluded to the possibility that the United States may attack the rogue nation.

As he left church, Trump was questioned by a reporter, “Will you attack North Korea?”

Trump responded, “We’ll see.”

Of the many absurd and offensive themes of Donald Trump’s political ascendency, his belligerent statements toward the people of Mexico have been among the most cringeworthy. From slandering Mexicans as thugs and rapists in his very first speech as a candidate, to his ongoing assertion that Mexico is going to pay for a nonsensical border wall, Donald Trump has made political hay by capitalizing on the xenophobia and resentment of right-wing America.

Mexico says no to Trump

Mexico for its part has not taken this verbal assault lying down. On Saturday, during his final State of the Union address before national elections next year, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto received roaring applause and standing ovation while vowing that Mexico would not compromise its national ‘dignity’ in dealing with the buffoonish leader of its neighbor to the north.

“I have said it and I will reiterate it: We will not accept anything that goes against our dignity as a nation,” said Peña Nieto, bringing the crowd to its feat for the largest applause of the day. “I am sure that in unity we will be able to defend the dignity of Mexico and its national interest.”

President Peña Nieto has previously stated that Mexico does not believe in border walls, and has no plans to pay for one.

Trump threatens dreamers with repeal of DACA

In his speech Peña Nieto also relayed Mexico’s “recognition, admiration and solidarity without reserve” to the “young dreamers,” immigrants who arrived in the United States as children and are protected from forced deportation by an Obama era initiative known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). It’s expected that the Trump administration will announce on Tuesday whether or not he will terminate the DACA program, which has provided legal status to nearly 800,000 young men and women, primarily from Mexico.

President Peña Nieto and the people of Mexico have made it clear that whatever may be happening here in the United States, they will not lower themselves to the level of undignified behavior exhibited by Donald Trump.

Russian Politician Claims Government Has Unverified Kompromat On Donald Trump

Tensions between the United States and Russia have certainly escalated recently. The most recent maneuver was the United States seizing three Russian diplomatic posts in San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and New York over the weekend. But if there is any truth to the salacious rumors of the past, the administration of Republican Donald Trump might be playing with fire by angering the Russian government.

Nikita Isaev, leader of the far-right New Russia Movement, appeared on Russia-24 and made an allegation not likely to make Trump too happy. In retaliation for the latest diplomatic moves, Isaev suggested embarrassing the Republican by releasing salacious tapes Russia is alleged to have from an unverified dossier released to the public earlier this year. As translated by Julia Davis, he stated:

Kompromat is the Russian word for blackmail material used against politicians. Isaev is referring to the explosive unverified dossier published by Buzzfeed in January which suggested the Russian government had compromising information on Donald Trump. Trump and former President Barack Obama were briefed on the existence of the dossier by then-FBI Director James Comey, who was later controversially fired by Trump.

The Ukranian-born Davis is an investigative reporter and film producer fluent in the language. She created the website Russia Lies in 2014 to track the mountainous amount of disinformation out of the country.

Tensions between Russia and the United States are likely to continue to escalate in the foreseeable future, considering multiple moves being suggested by both sides. Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning today against the U.S. supplying weapons to Ukraine, saying the “number of casualties could increase” if such a decision was made. Meanwhile, Democrats in the U.S. Senate are pushing to ban the Defense Department from using Russian-based Kaspersky Lab software because of the firms ties to Russian intelligence.

The situation in North Korea has also created more bad blood between the U.S. and Russia. In a Tweet, Donald Trump floated the idea of ending trade with any country doing business with North Korea. Putin, while condemning the recent weapons tests by North Korea, responded with some rather unflattering words directed at those considering such a move:

“It’s ridiculous to put us on the same (sanctions) list as North Korea and then ask for our help in imposing sanctions on North Korea,” said Putin. 

“This is being done by people who mix up Australia with Austria,” he added.

All that said, it’s clear that the relationship between the two powers is not getting any better at the moment. And if there is an ounce of truth to the unverified rumors of Russian kompromat on Republican Donald Trump, then maybe they will see the light of day as this situation continues to deteriorate.

Or maybe this is just another piece of Russian disinformation meant to disrupt American democracy. When will we ever really know?

German Defense is on high alert

Cyberterrorism has become an ever-growing problem in our increasingly digitized world. From a single computer, someone could theoretically ruin another individual’s life through finding out everything about them, planting a virus, and leaving without a trace.

This has extended to international elections where these blackhats have the capability to not only conduct successful propaganda campaigns, but also literally hack the voting machines and subsequently change the voting results in areas. Those that remain skeptical need only turn their attention to the hacker convention DEF CON in late July of this year, where these computer specialists were literally able to hack into U.S. voting machines in less than two hours.

As more evidence, like the Facebook ad story, is coming along that Russian hackers were responsible for influencing the opinion of many people in key purple districts during the 2016 presidential election, it seems that this has consequently given a bright idea to members of the alt-right in the United States to do the same thing elsewhere. After all, if such tactics were able to help get their candidate Donald Trump elected, could not the same thing be applied to other parts of the world?

In Germany, the government is facing that exact problem as the 2017 federal election commences. While incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel looks to win the reelection, a report from USA Today reveals that things could go potentially wrong as a result of, not Russians, but Americans.

Political science professor Simon Hegelich had this to say about the role American hackers from the reactionary alt-right movement have been having in the German elections:

“A lot of the stuff we are seeing in Germany can be linked to, or is at least inspired by, the ‘alt-right’ movement in the U.S.”

This should come as no surprise given Merkel’s continual policy conflicts with U.S. President Donald Trump, such as her affirmation to stay with the Paris Climate-Accord after Trump pulled the country out of it. The ironic thing, of course, is that Merkel herself does not come from a leftist party, instead belonging to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany faction that espouses centrist values. Politics in the U.S. have moved so far right that the Republican Party’s base consists of degenerates from a seemingly bygone era that see anything even slightly left-leaning as a communist.

We hope the German defense prevails against this propaganda campaign.

Fueled by a long, contentious presidential campaign led by Republican President Donald Trump, hate crimes jumped 20% in 2016, and show no signs of slowing down in 2017. That hate turned deadly on Saturday in Charlottesville, when 32-year old counter-protester Heather Heyer was mowed over and killed by a car driven by James Alex Fields, who plowed into the crowd and then fled. Fields has been arrested and is being charged with one count of second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and one count of failure to prevent hit-and-run.

On Saturday, President Trump made a less-than-strong statement condemning the heinous Virginia violence, but refused to use the term “White Supremacy.” He also refused to label the incident as “domestic terrorism.” Trump is being widely condemned by both Democratic and Republican politicians for his lack of leadership as White Nationalism is exploding across the United States.

Democratic Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe has been one of the most outspoken critics, telling the White Supremacists to “go home, and never come back.” He also told the press on Saturday that he spoke with Trump and implored him to,

“Stop the hate speech, stop the rhetoric in this country, we have got to bring people together.”

The American who was beaten in Dresden is being investigated for violating Germany’s laws against displaying Nazi symbolism or slogans. The attacker is still being sought.

Russian Politician Claims Government Has Unverified Kompromat On Donald Trump

Tensions between the United States and Russia have certainly escalated recently. The most recent maneuver was the United States seizing three Russian diplomatic posts in San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and New York over the weekend. But if there is any truth to the salacious rumors of the past, the administration of Republican Donald Trump might be playing with fire by angering the Russian government.

Nikita Isaev, leader of the far-right New Russia Movement, appeared on Russia-24 and made an allegation not likely to make Trump too happy. In retaliation for the latest diplomatic moves, Isaev suggested embarrassing the Republican by releasing salacious tapes Russia is alleged to have from an unverified dossier released to the public earlier this year. As translated by Julia Davis, he stated:

Kompromat is the Russian word for blackmail material used against politicians. Isaev is referring to the explosive unverified dossier published by Buzzfeed in January which suggested the Russian government had compromising information on Donald Trump. Trump and former President Barack Obama were briefed on the existence of the dossier by then-FBI Director James Comey, who was later controversially fired by Trump.

The Ukranian-born Davis is an investigative reporter and film producer fluent in the language. She created the website Russia Lies in 2014 to track the mountainous amount of disinformation out of the country.

Tensions between Russia and the United States are likely to continue to escalate in the foreseeable future, considering multiple moves being suggested by both sides. Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning today against the U.S. supplying weapons to Ukraine, saying the “number of casualties could increase” if such a decision was made. Meanwhile, Democrats in the U.S. Senate are pushing to ban the Defense Department from using Russian-based Kaspersky Lab software because of the firms ties to Russian intelligence.

The situation in North Korea has also created more bad blood between the U.S. and Russia. In a Tweet, Donald Trump floated the idea of ending trade with any country doing business with North Korea. Putin, while condemning the recent weapons tests by North Korea, responded with some rather unflattering words directed at those considering such a move:

“It’s ridiculous to put us on the same (sanctions) list as North Korea and then ask for our help in imposing sanctions on North Korea,” said Putin. 

“This is being done by people who mix up Australia with Austria,” he added.

All that said, it’s clear that the relationship between the two powers is not getting any better at the moment. And if there is an ounce of truth to the unverified rumors of Russian kompromat on Republican Donald Trump, then maybe they will see the light of day as this situation continues to deteriorate.

Or maybe this is just another piece of Russian disinformation meant to disrupt American democracy. When will we ever really know?

russian interference at home and abroad

We all know by now that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, which put our current Commander in Chief in the White House. Now, there are indications that Russia is interfering in operations of the military which the President is commanding, where the US and Russia are at odds – most notably, in Syria.

Four U.S. officials have confirmed that Russia’s military is adversely impacting American military aircraft in a hostile manner as tensions rise in the Syrian Civil War.  Drones — unmanned military aircraft — used by the US Armed Forces to fight ISIS and provide cover for Syrian rebels are being jammed by Russia to the point where one expert predicts they may “malfunction or even crash“.  NBC News reports:

The Russians began jamming some smaller U.S. drones several weeks ago, the officials said, after a series of suspected chemical weapons attacks on civilians in rebel-held eastern Ghouta. The Russian military was concerned the U.S. military would retaliate for the attacks and began jamming the GPS systems of drones operating in the area, the officials explained.

The nature of the conflict in Syria is tenuous enough without additional Russian interference. What began as a series of demonstrations against President Bashar al -Assad in 2011 has escalated into a full-scale civil war in which the Syrian government has used Sarin gas against its own people. The United States has armed Syrian rebels but the majority of military operations in the country have been aimed at defeating ISIS — the jihadi organization that infiltrated Syria as the civil conflict expanded. Russia, on the other hand, has also targeted ISIS activity but has remained an ally of the Assad regime.

Naturally, American and Russian interests have crossed paths in the war. In February, roughly 200 Russian mercenaries fighting on behalf of Assad were killed when they launched an attack on a US-supported base in the Northeast, Kurdish-controlled section of Syria. But this is the first reported example of a hostile action between the two cold war adversaries without the involvement of other key players in the war.

Putin Is Waging A Shadow War

Not every Republican is delicately soft when it comes to confronting Russian President Vladimir Putin, however. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) released a statement denouncing the Russian interference and calling on American leaders to literally wake up:

As more search warrants are executed, more indictments handed down, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation concludes, America will begin to get the whole picture on exactly how the 2016 was manipulated by the Kremlin. Unfortunately, the fundamentals of American democracy are not the only vital organs that Putin has his sights set on.

It appears that President Donald Trump won’t be visiting the United Kingdom anytime soon. In her speech before Parliament on Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth didn’t mention his name even once. In fact, the only state visit she mentioned was that of Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and their visit is scheduled for July, The New York Daily News reports. 

And according to The Independent,  it may be two years before Trump visits the U.S. ally.

Prime Minister Theresa May invited him to visit after the two were spotted holding hands in the White House garden earlier this year, but fears of large-scale protests may have scuppered the trip.

Downing Street and the White House are brushing aside claims that the President’s visit is in doubt, but the earlier invitation has faced mounting criticism, largely due to his ridiculous behavior.

Reports indicate that Trump told May last week that he wouldn’t visit unless he is welcomed warmly. He also warned her that if there are protests he definitely won’t be dropping in for a visit. And according to witnesses, that phone call shocked her.

Typical of Trump’s grandiosity, he wanted a full-fledged carriage ride through London with the Queen. But security officials were worried that the carriage ride would be a massive headache in terms of safety. It’s entirely understandable that officials are concerned, since London has been targeted by several terror attacks in recent months. It’s also entirely understandable that Trump is a buffoon with an over-blown ego who doesn’t care whose lives he might endanger as long as he’s put first.

There really isn’t much information out there regarding the trip, and in one of his infamous Twitter meltdowns, the president attacked London mayor Sadiq Khan after a recent terror attack left eight people dead.

Khan was trying to calm people down after the tragedy, and this was when Trump fired off a mean-spirited tweet calling the mayor’s response a “pathetic excuse.” That was followed up with one of his now-infamous Twitter meltdowns that lasted for two days.

So it should come as no surprise that Khan is imploring May to cancel Trump’s visit.

But May has been sidling up to our fearless orange leader, ever since her January visit to the White House, largely due to the fact that Trump is a Brexit supporter who has indicated he’d be more than happy to broker an early trade deal once the UK leaves the European Union.

Now petitions are swirling and members of the House of Commons are debating his trip, with the majority coming out against his arrival amid potentially looming protests.

So Trump’s done it again — he’s managed to worsen a chaotic situation while shining the light on himself.

With tensions ratcheting up yet again with the rogue nation of North Korea, this time the result of a hydrogen bomb test estimated to be 5-10x the strength of previous nuclear tests,  the world watches and waits anxiously to see how our notoriously temperamental president will respond.

THIS STANDOFF WITH NORTH KOREA IS GETTING TERRIFYING

Trump recently raised eyebrows with his comments suggesting that any more nuclear tests or threats from North Korea would be met with “fire and fury”, and his habit of provoking the leader of the hermit Kingdom, Kim Jung Un, on Twitter is unsettling for those seeking to de-escalate an already tense situation.

In a Sunday interview with ABC news Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) criticized the president for his reckless words and actions, particularly his use of social media.

“I don’t think that it’s helpful to get into a Twitter shouting match with a 32-year-old dictator, Kim Jong Un, in North Korea. I think unfortunately that it’s escalated the tension in the situation,”

he said.

Castro added.

North Korean state television announced on Sunday that a test of a miniaturized hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on an intercontinental ballistic missile was a success. For decades, since the end of the Korean war, the Kim dynasty has made the United States its perennial foe, using the threat of American invasion as a means to govern its people and implement a brutal regime of authoritarianism.

Cooler heads will prevail

Donald Trump’s propensity to make incendiary claims is problematic in all aspects of governing, but particularly in foreign policy. In order for the world to manage delicate and dangerous situations such as the one on the Korean peninsula, the United States must be clear-minded and level-headed in its leadership. At the very least, as Representative Castro reminds us, the president should avoid using Twitter to flame volatile young dictators with nuclear weapons.

In brief statement in which he took no questions Defense Secretary James Mattis announced Sunday that the North Korea threat may be met with a ‘massive military response’, prompting speculation that the United States could be planning a preemptive attack.

Military Response under consideration

“We are not looking for the annihilation of North Korea – we have many options” Mattis went on to say.

Earlier in the day Sunday Trump condemned North Korea’s most recent nuclear test in a number of tweets, saying the country was acting “hostile and dangerous” and claiming that “talk of appeasement will not work.”

“North Korea has conducted a major Nuclear Test. Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States,” the president wrote, also noting that North Korea “has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success.”

Hours before the White House briefing with Secretary Mattis,  Trump alluded to the possibility that the United States may attack the rogue nation.

As he left church, Trump was questioned by a reporter, “Will you attack North Korea?”

Trump responded, “We’ll see.”

Of the many absurd and offensive themes of Donald Trump’s political ascendency, his belligerent statements toward the people of Mexico have been among the most cringeworthy. From slandering Mexicans as thugs and rapists in his very first speech as a candidate, to his ongoing assertion that Mexico is going to pay for a nonsensical border wall, Donald Trump has made political hay by capitalizing on the xenophobia and resentment of right-wing America.

Mexico says no to Trump

Mexico for its part has not taken this verbal assault lying down. On Saturday, during his final State of the Union address before national elections next year, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto received roaring applause and standing ovation while vowing that Mexico would not compromise its national ‘dignity’ in dealing with the buffoonish leader of its neighbor to the north.

“I have said it and I will reiterate it: We will not accept anything that goes against our dignity as a nation,” said Peña Nieto, bringing the crowd to its feat for the largest applause of the day. “I am sure that in unity we will be able to defend the dignity of Mexico and its national interest.”

President Peña Nieto has previously stated that Mexico does not believe in border walls, and has no plans to pay for one.

Trump threatens dreamers with repeal of DACA

In his speech Peña Nieto also relayed Mexico’s “recognition, admiration and solidarity without reserve” to the “young dreamers,” immigrants who arrived in the United States as children and are protected from forced deportation by an Obama era initiative known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). It’s expected that the Trump administration will announce on Tuesday whether or not he will terminate the DACA program, which has provided legal status to nearly 800,000 young men and women, primarily from Mexico.

President Peña Nieto and the people of Mexico have made it clear that whatever may be happening here in the United States, they will not lower themselves to the level of undignified behavior exhibited by Donald Trump.
